BuildSave The Prompt
Keep prompts that work as named templates with placeholders, an owner and a version.
A prompt that works well is a small piece of process knowledge, and it usually lives in one person's chat history until it is lost. Saving it as a template makes the good result repeatable, lets others use it and gives you something to improve rather than reinvent.
How to use it
- When a prompt gives good results more than once, copy it into a shared document or folder.
- Replace the specific details with clear placeholders, such as [AUDIENCE] or [SOURCE TEXT].
- Add a name, a one-line purpose, an owner and a version number or date.
- Note the known limits: what it is not good at and what must be checked.
- When you change it, update the version and say what changed.
Example
A hospital's patient-information team saves a template for turning clinical leaflets into plain English, with placeholders for condition and reading age. New staff use it on day one, and the owner updates it when the style guide changes.
Watch out
- Saving prompts with real data or secrets still in them.
Test each template with a Golden Set and share it through a Shared Prompt Library.
